The tool isn’t the problem. Nobody redesigned the process around it.
Most companies bought Copilot, plugged in some ChatGPT wrappers, and waited for the productivity miracle. It didn’t come. Not because the tools don’t work. Because the workflows, review gates, evaluation infrastructure, and team structures around the tools were built for a pre-AI world.
AI-native engineering means redesigning the SDLC end to end. Code generation, test authoring, code review, deployment, incident response, and the human judgment loops that hold all of it together.
AI may assist. AI may amplify. AI may accelerate. It must never replace human judgment, especially at the moments that matter most: architecture, security, release decisions, and the calls that production engineers make under pressure.
This is the line in the sand. AI-native, but human-led.
